Missing helicopter found crashed near Queenstown
The wreckage of a helicopter reported overdue in the Queenstown area has been found in Lochy River basin.
Two men onboard, from Queenstown and Wanaka, have not survived the crash.
The Robinson 44 helicopter operated by Over the Top helicopters of Queenstown was reported overdue to the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand at around 2.30pm.
RCCNZ Keith Allen said up to three helicopters from Queenstown and Wanaka were involved in the search with the missing helicopter found shortly after 4pm.
“This is obviously a tragic outcome and our thoughts are very much with the families of those involved.”
The matter is now being handled by the Queenstown Police.
