SCIRT traffic update, week starting Monday 6 July 2015

School’s out!
While there may be less traffic during school holidays, there will be more children out and about in the city, especially at KidsFest events. Stay alert - keep an eye out for children when driving.

New work – Riccarton

Straven Rd, Kilmarnock St and Kahu Rd intersection
SCIRT is repairing a section of wastewater pipe at the Straven Rd, Kilmarnock St and Kahu Rd intersection, starting Monday 6 July. This work is expected take about a week. Turning restrictions:
• - No right turn on to Straven Rd from Kahu Rd
• - No right turn on to Straven Rd from Kilmarnock St.

Central city update
- Manchester St is one-way southbound towards Gloucester St from Armagh St. Detours are in place for northbound traffic, but try to avoid during peak hours.
- Moorhouse Ave continues to have lane drops, including the overbridge, so expect delays at peak times, however flow is improving as work sites reduce.
- Colombo St is one-way northbound between Moorhouse Ave and Lichfield St for most of the week.

What road should I use getting across and through the central city?

Southbound (towards Port Hills)

If you are headed south, use Barbadoes St, Fitzgerald Ave or Durham St.

Westbound (towards Hagley Park)
St Asaph St will have delays at peak hours and Moorhouse Ave will also be busy. Consider using Brougham St or Kilmore St for east/west journeys.

Northbound (towards Bealey Ave/Papanui/Shirley)
Madras Street will be busy at peak times. Use Fitzgerald Ave or Montreal St.

Basingstoke St

- Progressive road closure east of Bournemouth Cres, heading towards Hampshire St for another month.
- Two-way traffic with a priority give-way system east of Portsmouth St until late August along this part of the street to Bournemouth Cres.

Shortland St and Carters Rd
- Carters Rd is closed from Shortland St to the end of Carters Rd cul-de-sac (to 53 Carters Rd).
- Shortland St is also closed from Carters Rd to Rowses Rd.
- The road closures will be in place for about two weeks.

Work in other suburbs
St Albans - Edgeware Rd
There’s a one-way system for eastbound traffic on Edgeware Rd, between Manchester and Madras Sts for the next two weeks, with no on-street parking.

Burwood – Lake Terrace Rd

Lake Terrace Rd is closed between New Brighton Rd and Burwood Rd until end of July. Follow detour signs.

Burwood - Mairehau Road, outside Burwood Hospital
SCIRT will be replacing a damaged storm water pipe at the intersection of Mairehau Rd and the Burwood Hospital entrance. From Wednesday 8 July for around three days, traffic will not be able to turn right out of Burwood Hospital main entrance, or turn right into the main entrance. Instead of turning right into the hospital continue to the intersection of Mairehau and Burwood Rds, and use the roundabout to come back to the hospital entrance.

Linwood – Wyon St, Buckleys Rd, Dacre St
Wyon St intersection with Buckleys Rd will be closed, and Dacre St will be exit only onto Buckleys Rd for around three weeks.

Linwood – Gloucester St and Woodham Rd

• - The one-way traffic system that was in place for westbound traffic on Woodham Rd between Ngarimu St and Worcester St has been removed.
• - Upcoming work at the intersection of Avonside Dr and Gloucester St has been delayed with a new date to be confirmed.

St Martins - Centaurus Rd

Temporary lane shifts and shoulder closures are in place along Centaurus Rd between St Martins Rd and Kowhai Tce for about three weeks. Two-way traffic will continue on Centaurus Rd, during this wastewater repair work. Turning restrictions:
• - No right turn out of Kowhai Tce onto Centaurus Rd
• - No right turn onto Kowhai Tce from Centaurus Rd
• - No right turn at the intersection of Centaurus Rd and Centaurus Rd.

Addington

- Selwyn St - there is no right turn from Somerset Cres onto Selwyn St until mid-week. Please be careful of cyclists who will be merged with traffic in this area.
- Antigua St - between the railway and Moorhouse Ave will be closed to northbound traffic for all of next week. Follow detour signs.

Opawa – Ensors Rd

Night work is taking place on Ensors Rd between Brougham St and Opawa Rd. Work will be done on one side of the street at a time.
• - When work is on the west side of the road there will be no entry from Opawa Rd to Ensors Rd. Continue on Opawa Rd to reach Brougham St.
• - When work is on the east side of the road there will be no entry from Brougham St to Ensors Rd. Continue down Brougham St to reach Opawa Rd.

Opawa – Fifield Tce

Fifield Tce is closed, between Cholmondeley Ave and Ford Rd for about four weeks. Please expect delays, follow detour signs and plan extra time for journeys in the area.

Woolston – Smith St
Smith St is closed between Matlock St and Ferry Rd, where work is expected to take about three weeks to complete. Resident access will be maintained, except within the immediate area of work.

Clifton – Tuawera Tce
Tuawera Tce will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 8.30am and 4pm.

Sumner – Wakefield Ave
Wakefield Ave will be closed just south of Nayland St, with detours in place. Traffic westbound from Nayland St will not be able to turn onto Wakefield Ave.

Richmond – Chrystal St
A progressive one-way system for northbound traffic will be in place. As work progresses over the next three months, two-way traffic will be reinstated when possible.
