STEMM Festival proves Hutt is a ‘Technology Valley’

The Hutt STEMM Festival returned this year, bigger and better than before. A celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Manufacturing, the Festival continues to cement Lower Hutt as a national centre for medium-high tech industries.

Organised by Hutt City Council and supported by over 70 local businesses and organisations, the Festival’s many events were well attended and received much positive feedback.

Over the nine days of the Festival:

• 42 separate events took place.

• Over 5000 people took part in an event or activity.

• Nine awards were presented at the Technology Valley Awards dinner.

• 120 kids took part in the Be a Lego Legend Event at Eastbourne Library.

• 800 people visited the Hutt Science Discover Day

• 600 students visited the WelTec Open Day

Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace says that the success of the Festival helps proves the case of Lower Hutt as a centre of science and technology.

“I’m impressed once again by the level of support for the Hutt STEMM Festival, from the businesses and organisations hosting events, and from the people who attend and are engaged by what they find.

“It’s especially heartening to see so many young people’s enthusiasm for science and technology, as they are the ones who will continue to make Lower Hutt a great place to live, work and play into the future”.

The Festival will return next year, with dates confirmed for Saturday 27 May to Sunday 4 June 2017.
