New Lease for Motueka Top 10 Holiday Park

The Tasman District Council has agreed to grant a new lease for the Motueka Top 10 Holiday Park in Fearon’s Bush Recreation Reserve.

The new lease continues provisions for the protection of trees and to ensure public access for picnicking. Design concepts and changes to the holiday park’s entrance and parking are being considered to address concerns raised by members of the community about traffic and parking.

Tasman Mayor Richard Kempthorne said the new lease was the subject of a public hearing in November 2015.

“The hearing panel took into account the issues raised by submitters and recommended several amendments to the lease conditions. These ensure protected and native trees and plants will be well-looked after, and preserve the right of the public to enter the reserve for picnics, apart from during the peak camping period of 15 December to 15 February.”

The lease has a 33-year term, expiring in 2048. Mayor Kempthorne said this was effectively an extension of eight years to the holiday park’s existing lease, due to expire in 2040.

In 2014, Council adopted the campground financial strategy, which outlined the future ownership options and future investment required to maintain Council’s campground interests at a level that protected the longevity of these assets.

“The concept of extending the lease was part of extensive commercial negotiations for the buyback of the campground assets at this location. This results in greater returns from the Council’s campground assets, to the benefit of all ratepayers.”
