Westland District Council’s Chief Executive Remuneration

RELEASE
Westland District Council’s Chief Executive Remuneration
In response to the comments by the New Zealand Taxpayer’s Union regarding the salary paid to the Chief Executive (CE), Westland District Council would like to provide the following:
The figures stated in the Ratepayers Report for the Westland District Council have been obtained from our 2016/2017 Annual Report and not representative of our current value to ratepayers.
During this time the Council was undergoing a change in Chief Executive. There was an overlap between the outgoing CE, Tanya Winter leaving the role and the current CE, Simon Bastion, taking up the role. In the interim Robin Reeves led the council as CE for a number of months. As a result, the CE remuneration for that financial year is larger than normal and this is not representative of the standard salary. Our 2017/2018 Annual Report, which will be available when it has been audited and adopted by Council, will show that the CE’s remuneration is consistent with the 2015/2016 year.
