Travellers advised to use SH16 after fatal crash closes SH1 near Pūhoi
The NZ Transport Agency advises that State Highway 1 north of Pūhoi is closed in both directions after a fatal crash and motorists should expect significant delays.
Travellers heading south to Auckland are advised to take SH16 from Wellsford and drivers leaving the city are advised to go via the Northwestern motorway and SH16.
Closer to the crash site, the detour for traffic heading south is to turn off SH1 at Woodcocks Road, go on to SH16 and then Kahikatea Flat Road to return to SH1 at Silverdale. It’s the same detour in reverse for traffic heading north, turning off SH1 at Dairy Flat Highway to get to Kahikatea Flat Road.
The crash involving a car and a truck happened between Pūhoi and Mahurangi West Road.
It’s not clear when SH1 will reopen. Please avoid the area or delay your journey.
