Opening new section of the West Coast Wilderness Trail
19 October 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ready for the
summer season, the newest off-road section of the West Coast
Wilderness Trail is set to open.
The current trail alignment is 2km on State Highway 6 from the golf course kiosk to Mananui carpark and then to Mananui historic mill site.
David Inwood, Group Manager – District Assets, says “With the opening of our new trail alignment the historic Mahinapua Rail Bridge will be accessible to the public following a successful joint project with Department of Conservation and Westland District Council.
The new off-road trail alignment will remove the road cycle section on State Highway 6 and be replaced with an amazing 3.6km off-road single track bush experience.”
An official opening date for the signoff of the trail is scheduled for late November with invited dignitaries.
