Update from the Westland District Council
Emergency Operations Centre
State Highway 6 from Hokitika
to Fox Glacier is CLOSED due to surface flooding until
further notice. Update 3pm.
NZTA have advised that SH73 Jacksons to Springfield is CLOSED due to a washout on the Goat Creek Bridge east of Otira. Update 5pm.
Some local roads are currently closed due to surface flooding but are expected to open this morning as the flooding recedes.

The
Hokitika River has receded and is currently at first alarm
level and dropping The Wahio and Haast rivers are also
receding after hitting first level alarms yesterday
All
major West Coast rivers are being monitored closely.
There is still potential for localised surface flooding
around Hokitika township and additional mobile pumps are in
place.
There was some localised flooding in Hokitika last
night, but there were no evacuations.
The public are advised to take care if travelling on the roads and further updates will be provided on www.westcoastemergency.govt.nz
South Westland Area School and Kokatahi/Kowhitirangi School will remain closed today,
