Metlink Provides Free Fares as Thousands Head to Vigil
Metlink is providing free fares on buses and trains tonight as thousands make their way to the Basin Reserve to pay respects to the victims and survivors of the Christchurch attack.
Free travel on buses and trains will be available from 4pm to 9pm across all city services for this evening’s public vigil which starts at 6pm.
While normal Sunday services are in effect, Metlink is replacing single decker buses with double deckers on the route 1.
There will be free parking in the CBD from 4pm. Up to 12,000 people are expected to attend and traffic is expected to be heavy before and after the event.
Metlink advises all passengers to check the Metlink website and app before travelling tonight.
Our thoughts are with Christchurch.
