Dog Owners Unlikely To Face Fee Rise
Carterton District Council staff have proposed no rise in dog registration fees for the upcoming financial year.
Councillors are set to adopt the proposed dog control fees on Wednesday.
Urban entire dogs would continue to cost $110, urban neutered $85, and over 65 canine companion $75.
Rural dogs would cost $75 per dog to register for the first two dogs.
All remaining rural dogs would cost $40 per dog.
Dogs classified as dangerous would cost $165.
In Carterton, dog registration fees help to pay for most of the council’s animal services.
These include: impounding wandering dogs, investigation of dog attacks, and minimising nuisances caused by dogs.
It also includes complaint responses, operational costs of the animal shelter, proactive patrols, among other activities relating to animal control.
In the period from October 1 to April 30, there have been 11 service requests to the council regarding lost dogs, 39 regarding roaming dogs, 20 regarding dog barking, and 6 regarding dog rushing.
Three service requests were made over that time regarding dog attacks on animals, and two for dog attacks on people.
