Update: Hamilton Homicide
Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old man in relation to the ongoing homicide investigation in Hamilton.
Detective Inspector Daryl Smith says this arrest is great progress in Police’s investigation, however there is still work to be done.
The 18-year-old man appeared in Hamilton District Court today. He has been remanded in custody and all facts in relation to the charges and the ongoing investigation have been suppressed.
Police continue to work on piecing this incident together, and would like to thank the community for their support.
“We know incidents like these are distressing for the wider community, and we will have a presence in the area while our investigation is ongoing.
“The information that is provided from the community is crucial in assisting in our investigation, and we urge anyone who has information and has not yet contacted us to please get in touch,” says Detective Inspector Smith.
The 20-year-old victim died in hospital after being critically injured during a fight on Alexandra Street at around 12.10am on Sunday.
“If you saw this fight, if you filmed it, or if you have dashcam footage, we need to hear from you.”
