Two Car Parks For Wheelchair Users?
Thomas Morgan, Wellington City Council Eastern Ward Candidate is suggesting that people with disability parking permits who need extra space to enter and exit their vehicles either with or without a wheelchair be allowed to use two spaces at the same time for the cost of one.
“It seems like an obvious idea and of course not as good as assigned disability parking which must remain, however when possible using two adjacent parallel parks at once will be quite a viable idea in many cases. The vehicle would park across the centre of the two parks allowing extra space on either side. Admittedly access to the footpath will be an issue so it will be up to the park user to ensure that they can reach the footpath safely.” He said.
Morgan is keen to receive feedback and intends to ask council officers to investigate the idea via the required processes even if not elected. To provide feedback on this and to find even more ideas from possible Councillor Morgan see https://www.facebook.com/VoteThomasMorgan
The election occurs on 11 October with voting starting from 9 September when voting papers start to be posted out. Special votes can be cast by any resident right up to voting day and more information can be found here:- https://wellington.govt.nz/your-council/elections/2025-elections/information-for-voters/how-to-cast-a-special-vote
