Closures For Essential Maintenance On Southland Bridge
Waihopai River Bridge, on State Highway 1 at Kennington, near Invercargill, is due to close for two days next week to allow roading teams to carry out essential maintenance.
The bridge is scheduled to be closed in both directions from 5am to 9pm, on Tuesday 16 December and Wednesday 17 December. Road users should plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel.
Detours will be available: Light vehicles travelling eastbound should turn left from SH1/East Road into Mill Road North, right onto Fairweather Road, right onto Kennington Roslyn Bush Road, and left back onto SH1/East Road. Westbound light vehicle traffic should turn left onto Kennington Road, right onto Clapham Road, and then left back onto SH1.
Heavy vehicles/HPMV travelling eastbound should also detour via Mill Road North, Fairweather Road and Kennington Roslyn Bush Road. The reverse applies for westbound heavy vehicle traffic.

This work depends on various factors and may be amended or rescheduled. If it is, notification will be provided through NZTA channels. Stay up to date at our Journey Planner site.
