Event Direct By Metro – What To Expect If You Shuttle To Events At One New Zealand Stadium At Te Kaha

Metro is gearing up to launch its Event Direct shuttle bus service, as the opening of One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha nears.
Event Direct by Metro is a pre-booked shuttle bus service which picks up customers from 11 different locations around Christchurch, taking them directly to Latimer Square and Ara, both short walks from One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha.
Canterbury Regional Council Public Transport Core Service Lead Councillor Joe Davies said as Canterbury grows, the Regional Council remains focused on delivering innovative solutions that help our communities.
“Introducing this event-focused service reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting a well-connected and thriving region through public transport,” he says.
Public transport general manager Stewart Gibbon said the shuttle bus service is a premium offering, providing eventgoers with a guaranteed space on a shuttle bus taking them directly to drop-off points only a short walk away from the stadium.
“The booking system is set to be live by early April, allowing customers time to book shuttles ahead of the stadium’s opening events later that month,” Stewart said.
“The shuttles are a pre-booked service, so it’s essential eventgoers book online ahead of events in order to guarantee their space on board,” he added.
Shuttle spaces are limited, so eventgoers are encouraged to consider all transport options including existing bus routes, cycling, scootering, walking and carpooling. The Metro network will operate to normal timetables, and for large events, routes servicing the Interchange may experience high demand, particularly after events.
A 20% early bird discount will be on offer, making tickets $4.80 per person one way, or $9.60 return. Early bird cut-off times will vary depending on when shuttle spaces become available for each event. Children under two can ride for free on the lap of their caregiver, and prams must be folded up for the shuttle journey.
We will continue to review the service over time and may change the pick-up and drop-off locations within Christchurch. They will be in well-known areas that are highly accessible. Confirmed locations will be listed in the booking system.
