He has given Mike's Mild pride of place and the leading page of the Mild Ales section in both his latest books "Ultimate Beer" and "The Great Beer Guide". Jackson describes Mike's Mild as having "a fresh, earthy aroma; a smooth body; appetizing and pronounced cookie, milk chocolate, and malt flavours; and a very lightly roasty dryness in the finish. It shows an outstanding balance of mild malt characteristics, though it lacks somewhat in ale fruitiness." http://www.brewing.co.nz/20001201mikes.htm

CLINTON LEAVES THE BILL Bill Clinton nipped into a pub for a swift half during his UK visit on Thursday - but left without paying. He downed a £1.30 half-pint of organic Pitfields lager, made in Britain from New Zealand ingredients, and a Diet Coke, while his secret service men drank Coke. After serving the leader of the free world, landlord Mike Bell asked: "Who picks up the tab for this?" http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/newsid_1070000/1070982.stm

SAIL & ANCHOR LAUNCH NEW HEFE-WEIZEN Hefe-Weizen's interesting cloudy appearance and clove like aroma are sure to be talking points, while one sip gives rise to an explosion of flavour. Rich and malty with hints of banana and cloves that dance on your tongue. A perfect beer for a relaxing afternoon on the balcony of The Sail & Anchor, Western Australia.

FRASER & NEAVE AWAIT BRIERLEY INTENTIONS Singapore drinks maker Fraser & Neave is expected to report a tripling of profit in the year to September - but analysts will be keenly examining the possible intentions of new shareholder Brierley Investments as the figures are released this week. It is believed that as with UK brewer Young’s, Brierley plans to use its shareholding to demand a restructuring of the firm - and like the Young’s situation Brierley would then be expected to contemplate a takeover attempt. Analysts expect a break-up of the company to be proposed in a bid to realise greater shareholder value. Analysts have a full-year net profit forecast of S$145.3m for the year to the end of September against S$48m last time. Excerpt from breWorld BeerBulletin http://www.beerbulletin.com/
