“Gaffe Produced On The Smell Of An Oily Rag”
The Oily Rag Theatre production in the Fringe Festival has been put together on the smell of an oily rag according to producer Sam Fisher.
“Our entire budget including bringing the three actors from Christchurch is $2000,” says Sam Fisher. “Other productions seem to be double that and they have local actors”.
“Gaffe is the sixth Oily Rag Theatre Production and all the others to date have broken even. We keep our costs low by doing things like constructing an entire set for $73, renting the coffee table that appears in the play from a second hand shop, borrowing everything we can, and being innovative about how we get things,” said Sam Fisher.
Gaffe is different from other Fringe plays
because
* We’re doing everything on the smell of an oily
rag and keeping it cheap.
* We have no external
funding
* It is the only production that has travelled to
this years festival
* The play was successfully performed
before, in July 1999 in Christchurch.
Tim Barcode’s play “Gaffe” got strong reviews when first performed in Christchurch in July 1999 in the Christchurch Fringe Festival and is now in the 2001 Wellington Fringe Festival.
