New Zealand Cellist Through To Finals

Nineteen year old Yoon Jung Kim , Korea/New Zealand has been selected as one of three finalists in the second round of the 4th Adam International Cello Festival and Competition. The competition which runs until Sunday July 15, has featured 16 cellists from around the world competing for prizes including a first prize of NZ$8000, a recording contract with Naxos and a performance with the NZSO.

The other finalists are Minah Choe of Australia who is at the Sydney Conservatorium and Russian, Alexander Neustroev, a student of David Geringas. Geringas was the chairman of the jury in the very first Adam Cello Competition.

Former student at Burnside High School, Kim is currently studying in the United Kingdom at the Purcell Specialist School. She was the youngest ever winner of the National Concerto Competition and has appeared as a soloist with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. She has recorded with Concert FM, appeared in major cities in New Zealand, Korea and Australia, and has been awarded numerous prizes in music competitions.

The finalists will perform with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra on Sunday July 15 at 7pm in the Town Hall and the winner will be announced after the concert, when Denis Adam of the Adam Foundation will present prizes.
