New Zealanders Rush To Swot Up On New Relationship Law

New Zealanders are hungry for information on the new relationship law and what it means for them if sales of a new book For Richer For Poorer are anything to go by.

The book was the number one non-fiction seller for Bennetts last week, is on other best-seller lists and booksellers throughout the country have had to reorder it to meet customer demand.

Jane Strange, Sales and Marketing Manager for the book's publisher CCH New Zealand, says the book has only been on sale for three weeks and they are already having to reprint it.

"In the beginning people may have thought the law was just about de facto relationships but now they are realising it affects everyone in a relationship including those who are married," she says.

Jane says they have even had interest in the book from parents concerned about their children's situation.

For Richer For Poorer is a plain English guide, designed to help New Zealanders understand the Property Relationships Act, how it affects them and how they can contract out of it.

The book has a sample property relationship agreement to help people do this.

Sections of the new law came into effect on 1 August this year and the other provisions of the Act will come into force next February.

For Richer For Poorer is available in bookstores nationwide or by phoning 0800 500 224.
