It¹S Got To Be Good For You
This initiative will lead to more New Zealand music on the radio, this has to be good for the local industry² Mike Chunn said today, after hearing of final details of the RBA Code of Accelerated Growth.
Chunn, Chairman of the Broadcasting Committee of the NZ Music Industry Commission, said that the work of the RBA, NZ on Air and the Commission was an ongoing task, ³We want to sell more records, hear more kiwi voices and develop the culture of New Zealand music.²
2001 was a very healthy year for NZ Music and an all time high for New Zealand Music airplay at radio. With such success, the New Zealand Music Industry Commission (NZMIC) is sure a commitment to increased radio airplay will result in ongoing commercial success for New Zealand Artists.
Set up with Cultural Recovery Funding by the government, one of the aims of the NZMIC is NZ Music Month in May, yet another example of support for local Music. Radio has had an ongoing involvement in the development of this, through the vital relationship with New Zealand On Air. Brendan Smyth and his team have worked very hard to develop a working relationship with radio.
Mike was confident about the Code, ³New Zealand music is vibrant and exciting, and increasingly succesful ... I¹m sure the RBA won¹t look back from implementing this code.²
