Funding Decisions For Reo Mäori Radio Programmes
09 May 2002
Te Mängai Päho has awarded over $1.8M in funding for new reo Mäori radio programmes to be broadcast through the 21 station Iwi network.
News and Current Affairs represent the largest offer in a line-up of sports coverage, documentaries, drama, children mini-dramas, youth, comedy, inserts and an open segment seeking one-off programmes.
Te Mängai Päho Chief Executive Trevor Moeke says the latest round of reo Mäori radio programme evaluations reflects the high quality of programming demanded by iwi stations.
“Te Mängai Päho, along with reo Mäori radio industry and iwi station representatives, conducted a rigorous evaluation process. Recommendations were then submitted to the Te Mängai Päho Board for approval prior to the applicants being notified earlier this week.”
Trevor Moeke says Te Mängai Päho is delighted with the range of high quality radio programming that will provide an integral aspect of successful reo Mäori radio. Such programming provides iwi stations with even greater options to complement their local and shared national broadcasting.
“Te Mängai Päho is dedicated to the advancement of te reo Mäori and culture. A tried way to achieve that is through enjoyable and interesting radio programming – programmes which people want to listen to.”
The agency expects that the delivery of the programmes will begin July 1, 2002.
