Mascalzone Latino Is The Winner Against The French

PRESS RELEASE

TIM MASCALZONE LATINO IS THE WINNER AGAINST THE FRENCH TEAM LE DEFI AREVA Auckland, 12th Ocotber, 2002

A successful day for “TIM Mascalzone Latino” winnwr today in tha match versus the freanch team “Le Defi Areva” and scoring his first point. A tough and demanding race sailed in a (once again) shifty Nortwesterly wind up to 20 knots.

The two yachts crossed the starting line at the same time and at the end of first windward leg the French team could round the mark ahead of “TIM Mascalzone Latino” only because the all-Italian team had failure in the genoa sheet that made him tack earlier and so slow down at about 3/4 length of the leg.

“TIM Mascalzone Latino” on the first run sailed aggressive tactics so he could get a good advantage, roundinf the leeeward mark 29” ahead “Le Defi Areva”. The second windward leg prooved to be very tough again with 21 tacks that prroved to be very demanding especially for grinder muscles (including grinder -skipper Vincenzo Onorato).

The hard work has been rewarded with an advantage in second and third mark roundings (13” at windward mark, 22” at leeward mark).

Once again the advantage had been frustrated in the last windward leg as the genoa sheet finally broke resulting in an unplanned tack that made the boat designed by Giovanni Ceccarelli divert from the optimum course.

Nevertheless Paolo Cian and his “guys” went on sailing fearless and just waited for the rght time toattack and pass ahead 4” the French team, right at the end of the leg, and so winning the race.
