Please find the following details re The New Zealand Rose of the Year held in Hamilton on Saturday 16th November. This is a prestigious international event and is held annually in the beautiful Rogers Rose Garden at the Hamilton Gardens.
Judges are invited from all walks of life, to judges the roses as they are on the day, and when this job has been completed the guests have lunch. The winning roses were announced and the overall winner received the magnificent Pacific Rose Bowl which was presented this year by the Governor General Dame Sylvia Cartwright.
This year we had 3 distinguished guests from Japan and in the future the Hamilton Gardens will become part of the best rose gardens and rose festivals from around the Pacific which will be known as the Pacific Rose Bowl Festival.
The Fragrance award was presented by the representative of the Governor of Gufu in Japan.
Sam McGredy has been the leading light in promoting this rose festival future.
