WATTIE'S AND PACIFIC CORNED BEEF CONGRATULATE BEATRICE FAUMUINA
Congratulations to Beatrice Faumuina, who was named Overall Sportsperson of the Year in 2002 at last Friday night's SSALAIA annual National Samoan Sports Awards ceremony.
The Awards, which have been sponsored by Pacific Corned Beef since they began six years ago, recognise outstanding achievements at international, national or senior sporting levels.
Almost 500 people attended the Awards ceremony, at Lakeside Convention Centre in Mangere, and were entertained by MC Oscar Kightley from the popular television program The Panel.
It was a big night for Beatrice Faumuina, who also won the Senior Sportswoman Award for 2002 for her achievements in Discus Throwing, with this year seeing her winning gold at the Commonwealth games and the World Games. Other Award winners included rugby league players Ali Lauititi, (Senior Sportsman) and Evarn Tuimavave (Junior Sportsman), netballer Rachel Rassmusssen (Junior Sportswoman), and basketball coach Faamanatuga Taufale (Coach).
Nominees for the National Samoan Sports Awards come from a range of sporting backgrounds, and are of the highest calibre, with many having represented NZ internationally.
The team at Wattie's, who manufacture Pacific Corned Beef, are proud sponsors of the Awards, and congratulate all the nominees and winners.
