We also have the Te Arai/Forestry Longboard Classic on this weekend plus a big hooley happening Saturday night up there. Last but not least the Black Boat - come on lads we are right behind you...The whole country is. I will be glued to the couch tomorrow afternoon.

Weather Situation

Its is shaping up to be a windy weekend this weekend looking at the weather map. We have a High in the Tasman Sea slowly moving this way. There is small Low forming in the Tasman Sea just northeast of Queensland. We have just the best looking Low to the southeast of the South Island with southwest to southerly airflow associated with it. A giant High is slowly moving to the east of the country. Last but not least there is a tiny week Low sitting to the northeast of the North Island.

Regional Report

North Island

Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:

West Coast: No shortage of swell from the southwest this afternoon and it will hang in there all weekend. The wind right now is gusty westerly and the surf looks like crap. Southwest this arvo and this evening with southerlies forecast for tomorrow. Raglan is looking good for the weekend with the wind going more to south. We have 3-4 feet of lumpy surf this arvo. HT 1450.

East Coast: A southwest offshore is beating away at the little northeast swell we have had all week. It is little gang, with 1-1.5 feet at the most. Hard to imagine anything happening over the weekend with offshores prevailing. Next week gang, for a new swell on this coast. HT 1150.

Gisborne; Wairarapa:

The southerly has hit team and the swell is on the rise from the south as expected. We have a couple of feet already. Strong nasty onshores today and tomorrow with the southerly finally easing late Sunday. We can expect a heap of swell with a good solid 4-6 foot over the coast tomorrow. HT 0935.

Taranaki:

Southwest this arvo and a rising southwest swell. No shortage gang, with town a messy 3-4 feet and down the coast solid as, with 6 foot plus. The forecast southwest all weekend easing by Sunday arvo. HT 1410.

Wellington:

West Coast; The offshore has come through and there are waves to be had this afternoon at the Bay. Nothing too exciting 2-3 feet of wind swell but worth the effort because it probably wont be there tomorrow. Yes the southerly is forecast to be gale force tonight and tomorrow. HT 1455.

South Coast; We have a small south swell this arvo of 1-2 feet and the wind is a strong gusty southerly. Rising south swell tonight and tomorrow with south to southwest winds and the onshore should ease by late Sunday. Can't see an offshore before Monday though as the High in the Tasman moves on to us. HT 0935.

South Island

West Coast:

Big as, an onshore today. White water to the horizon, well damn near southwest all weekend. Tomorrow is looking like the inner harbour breaks. HT 1530.

Kaikoura; Canterbury:

The south swell is on the rise and we have a cold southerly wind. Yes it is like winter is here, but only for a day or so. The south swell will really kick in tonight and tomorrow and we should see a solid 3-4 feet. This afternoon we have 2-3 feet at Kaikoura and 1-1.5 on the Christchurch beaches. More on the other side of the Peninsular of course. Southwest winds for the weekend finally easing by Sunday. HT 1700.

Dunedin; Southland:

The southerly has filled in and we have a rising south swell of 3-4 feet with the occasional bigger one. We are expecting more gang. Southwest winds all weekend here as well. HT 0730.

Enjoy your weekend and see you tomorrow.

Don't forget to "surf before you surf"

Cheers,

The Team http://www.surf.co.nz
