Thank goodness it's the weekend, it has been one of those weeks. You know there has been surf round, but do you think I can get there...no way! I will have to go for a hunt over the weekend. It isn't looking too bad with waves for most of us tomorrow with the surf pretty much easing by Sunday. Hey, Highlanders supporters' do you reckon you can beat the mighty Blues tonight?!

Now, the last episode of Red Surf for the summer, is on TV2 tomorrow at 4.00pm. It's a "best of" so well worth a look. This locally produced show is full of hot New Zealand talent

1. Weather Situation 2. Regional Report 3. Surf Pad of the Week 3. Win a DVD Player!

Weather Situation

We have a small Low just off the West Coast with a couple of fronts wrapped around it. This is producing a west to northwest swell. There is a Low heading this way in the Southern Ocean by Tasmania. We have a small Low to the North of us. The Low that has been with us all week off our East Coast is slowly drifting further to the east.

Regional Report

North Island

Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:

West Coast: No shortage of swell this afternoon with a solid 5-6 feet at Piha. Even outside Indicators is pushing the 5-6 foot mark as well. Not a lot of wind with easterlies tending northeast on Saturday and back to southwest by late Sunday. The swell will start to ease tomorrow but will get a reboot early next week. HT 1205.

East Coast: All week we have had a northeast swell of 1-3 feet depending on where you are and what the tide is doing. Now, this swell will continue to hang in there, but we will have northeast to easterly onshores tomorrow and they will be quite strong first thing Sunday and then ease with a southwest change possible late Sunday or Monday. This arvo the wind is any thing from north, right through to southeast, so just a light onshore breeze. HT 0915.

Gisborne; Wairarapa:

Westerlies or northwest today with the wind swinging to the northeast tomorrow and unfortunately it is looking like staying like that for the weekend. Now the south swell is easing and we have 1-2 feet left over and still the odd bigger. We also have a neat little east swell, which will hang around through the weekend. HT 0755.

Taranaki:

Tomorrow is the day guys, with a southwest swell of 3-5 feet expected and northeast winds. It is back to northwest or westerly by Sunday. This arvo we have a light northwesterly wind with 1-3 feet of Surf in Town. It is surfable as there are a couple of guys out at Fitzroy. HT 1135.

Wellington:

West Coast; No it's not flat and we have a northwest onshore of around 8-10 knots and 1-2 feet of wind swell. The wind is forecast to swing northeast tomorrow and then back to the northwest on Sunday.

South Coast; A small south swell in town of about a foot but Ning Nong is 1-2 feet with even the odd bigger one sneaking in. The wind is a real light northwesterly this arvo but northeast winds are forecast for tomorrow and we are expecting the south swell to kick in but not until Monday. HT 1915.

South Island

West Coast:

Northeast winds today and tomorrow and then it is back to southwest. We have a west swell of 3-5 feet this afternoon and this will hang in there tomorrow and then drop pretty quickly. We are expecting a new southwest to start to show by Sunday arvo. HT 1230.

Kaikoura; Canterbury:

A northeaster this arvo and tomorrow with northwest forecast for Sunday morning and then back to northeast. So, I guess we will get a northeaster each arvo. Now we have a small northeast to east swell of 1-2 feet that is looking like hanging around for the weekend. There is still an easing south swell on the other side of the peninsular of 1-3 feet. Kaikoura; Northeast winds and a small south swell of 1-2 feet and an east swell of 1-2 feet. It is already quite crowded this afternoon. The conditions look like being the same all weekend. HT 1850.

Dunedin; Southland:

South swell of 2-3 feet this arvo and a northeast wind. The forecast is for northeast to northwest or westerly tomorrow with southeast forecast for Sunday. Now we are going to get a reboot of south swell on Sunday with any luck. HT 1335.
