In conjunction with The Art of Islam exhibition, Auckland Museum is hosting a very special evening lecture series.

Monday 28th April, 7.30pm
Dr Eric Van Reijn,
Retired Lecturer, University of Auckland
“The Islamic State from 622 – 950 AD:
Dream & Reality”
The rising of the Islamic state, the Khalifate & the beginnings of Baghdad

Monday 5th May, 7.30pm
Dr Nabeel Zuberi,
Lecturer in Film & Media Studies, University of Auckland
“Islam in Popular Culture”
Modern Islamic art forms including film and music

Monday 12th May, 7.30pm
Dr Tim Behrend
Lecturer in Asian Studies, University of Auckland
“Islamic communities in Indonesia”
With special reference to historic Islamic texts. Dr Behrend will bring in some of his personal collection of manuscripts for the audience to examine
