Friday Arvo Surf Update - ANZAC Edition

The Friday Arvo Surf Update - ANZAC Edition.

Don't you just love these short weeks? I do...not to mention another long weekend. Yehaaaa. Sounds like last weekend, Easter that is, a lot of you scored good waves. This weekend is shaping up to be a good one as well.

----------

Weather Situation:

There is a complex system of lows and fronts to the southeast of the Chatham Islands. This system is producing a great southeast swell on the East Coast from Gisborne south. There are two lows sitting off to the east that are slowly moving further to the east. We also have another low looking like it will try and become a sub troppy just to the north of the North Island. We have the big high slowly moving eastward. This high is sitting right on top us. We also have a southerly airflow associated with this system that will start off southwest and tend southeast over the weekend.

----------

Regional Report:

North Island

Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:

West Coast: West to southwest winds today and a southwest swell of 4-5 feet and we are expecting a lot more by tomorrow. The swell should peak tomorrow arvo and start to ease through the weekend. The wind will swing to the southeast tomorrow and then its back to southwest on Sunday. LT 1035. Camera link

East Coast: Not looking that flash for the weekend with only small northeast lines this arvo. Not a lot of hope. We will see a little lift in swell on Friday arvo or Monday morning. Southwest offshores swinging southeast tomorrow arvo. It's back to offshore west to southwest winds by Sunday. HT 1405.

Gisborne; Wairarapa:

Looking like a good place to be this weekend with a pumping south swell that will probably get a reboot tomorrow. Wouldn't be surprised to see solid 6-foot tomorrow arvo. Southwest winds tending southerly tomorrow and then its back to southwest and then westerly winds. The winds are looking at being quite strong in the Wairarapa. HT 1220. Camera Link

Taranaki:

Rising southwest swell today and tomorrow. Southwest winds tending southeast tomorrow and Saturday. A change back to the west southwest late Saturday. We have a lumpy horrible 1-1.5 feet of west southwest swell in town. It's bigger down the coast of course with 2-3 feet of lumpy rubbish. Waves tomorrow though guys. HT 1600. Camera link

Wellington:

West Coast; Onshore northwest winds today and 1-2 feet of northwest wind swell. The wind will go to the southwest tonight. It's looking like southerlies all weekend.

South Coast; We have a clean south swell in town this arvo of 1-2 feet occasional bigger one. Fresh northwest offshores getting stronger and then a southerly change tonight. The wind will tend southwest all weekend. East coast is looking a good option. HT 1135. Camera link

South Island

West Coast:

Rising southwest swell today and tomorrow. Its 4-6 feet this arvo and will get bigger. Now the wind will be southwest with a small window of southeast winds on Saturday morning and then its back to the southwest. HT 1715. Camera link

Kaikoura; Canterbury:

Flat as this arvo in town. But we do have a south swell on the other side. The problem is a southerly change is inches away and will come through with a flourish. Southwest winds all weekend with a southerly swell building tomorrow and then starting to ease by Saturday. Kaikoura is looking good today with a south swell of 2-3 feet and not a lot of wind. Again southerly on the way and southwest for the weekend. No shortage of swell from the south for the weekend though. HT 1100.

Dunedin; Southland:

Heaps of south swell for the weekend gang. Now the swell should build today and tomorrow and then start to ease on Saturday. It's looking like south to southwest winds all weekend as well. HT 1135.

----------

Have another great long weekend. Ride and drive safely guys & don't forget to "surf before you surf"

Cheers,

The Team http://www.surf.co.nz
