Hi

Boy, I bet this week dragged, I think it is the first week where we have had to work 5 days in a row for a while. Big clash tonight with the super 12 - Go both teams! Plus of course go Canterbury tonight in Australia.

1. Weather Situation 2. Regional Report 3. Surf Pad of the Week 4. CHEAP WAX!

Weather Situation

We have a beast of a low sitting just to the southeast of the South Island and this baby is about to bomb the East Coast with swell. The low that produced the small swell this week on the East Coast, is heading further to the east. We have a small low, forming in the Tasman Sea. There are two highs sitting to the northeast and we have a westerly airflow over the country.

Regional Report

North Island

Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:

West Coast: Onshore west to southwest winds this arvo and they look like carrying on all weekend. We will see a dramatic lift in swell by tomorrow arvo and this swell will be with us for days. The winds are likely to tend more west/northwest by Saturday arvo and through Sunday. It's looking like the reforms for a bit of respite...HT 1555.

East Coast: Well, we scored some good waves this week on this coast, but the weekend is looking real dismal. A small southeast swell of about a foot to a foot and half this arvo, will die away and be replaced with an equally small northeast swell of about a foot to maybe two if we are real lucky - But it is not looking promising. Offshores all weekend from a westerly quarter. HT 1255.

Gisborne; Wairarapa:

There will not be any shortage of swell this weekend, with a developing south swell that will build today and keep building tomorrow. This swell should peak on Sunday and then start to ease. Northwest winds going southwest and then back to westerly by Sunday. HT 1120.

Taranaki:

Onshores all weekend with a big lift in swell over the weekend from the southwest. The winds are going to be from the west to northwest and we won't see a southwesterly until Sunday arvo. Expect solid 6 foot plus down the coast by Sunday or even Saturday arvo. HT 1515.

Wellington:

West Coast; Fresh to strong onshore northwest winds over the weekend and a rising northwest wind swell. We won't see a southerly until late Sunday at the earliest. It will be wind swell to play in.

South Coast; We have an offshore northwest wind this afternoon and a small south swell of 1-2 feet. Now we are expecting more swell over the weekend with a rising southeast swell. Palliser bay this arvo is 2-3 feet and on the rise. The swell should really kick in on Sunday and peak by Monday. North to northwest winds with a southwest late Sunday Ht 1035.

South Island

West Coast:

Rising southwest swell today and tomorrow with southwest to westerly winds. Only 2-4 feet this arvo, but boy will it pick up quickly. We are expecting masses of swell tomorrow and Sunday from the southwest. West to northwest winds tomorrow and with any luck a southwester by Sunday. HT 1630.

Kaikoura; Canterbury:

Two swells today, with south swell easing and southeast swell on the rise. The southeast swell will slowly build and should peak tomorrow arvo. The wind forecast is for west to northwest tomorrow with southwest by Sunday. Kaikoura this arvo is 2-3 feet from the south. HT1000.

Dunedin; Southland:

South swell of 2-3 feet this arvo and a southwesterly wind. It is semi clean. Now, we are expecting more swell over the weekend, with Dunedin possibly copping the brunt of the swell. The swell will really kick in tomorrow and should peak by Sunday. Northwest going westerly and then southwest by Sunday. HT 0825.

Surf Pad of the Week
