Turoa Ski Area On Mt Ruapehu To Open This Friday
Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL) will open Turoa Ski Area on schedule this coming Friday, 20 June.
Alpine Meadow beginners' area will be the first facility to open on the mountain, snow and weather conditions permitting, with some upper mountain facilities expected to begin operating from mid next week.
Turoa has received more than 30cm of new snow on the upper mountain since Sunday, taking the snow base to 50cm.
More snow is in the forecast down to 1800m from tomorrow.
Whakapapa Ski Area has received 25cm of new snow since Sunday taking the snow base on the upper mountain to 35cm.
Mike Smith, Marketing Manager for RAL says he expects some facilities to be operating on Whakapapa's June 27 opening day, weather and snow conditions permitting.
"We now have snow groomers preparing the upper
mountain at Turoa and with some more snow we'll get further
facilities operating."
