DOGS HAVE THEIR DAY AT PREMIER EVENT

2003 PEDIGREE National Dog Show hits the capital

Wellington, 18 September, 2003 - For three days in late September more than 1,200 dogs from 130 breeds will be competing for the coveted 'Best in Show' title at the 2003 PEDIGREE National Dog Show. The event takes place between Thursday 25 September and Saturday 27 September at the New Zealand Kennel Club Exhibition Centre in Porirua.

The event sees the world rarest breeds, like the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, being judged alongside traditional favourites like Labradors, Boxers and Fox Terriers as they and their owners vie for the coveted 'Best in Show' crown. The show is a must see for animal-lovers and dog enthusiasts of all ages.

Janine Chamley, Marketing Manager for PEDIGREE, says the popularity of the event is built around the mix of the familiar and the rare or unusual. "We get such a cross-section of dogs entering into the show. There are dogs of all shapes and sizes from all over the country.

As many as 12,000 people are expected at the show and there is plenty for visitors to see. Along with the traditional obedience and agility trials there will be a dedicated interactive area for younger dog enthusiasts to learn all about responsibly owning and caring for a dog.

Ms Chamley says the event highlights the popularity of dogs in New Zealand, and also allows people to focus on the pleasure of owning a dog. "The 2003 PEDIGREE National Dog Show promotes happy, healthy dogs for life - and we are delighted to be the major sponsor and long-time supporter of this terrific event," she says.
