Kicking Up Your Heels for Day Of The Older Person
Manukau City Council is inviting people to kick up their heels to celebrate International Day of the Older Person on 26 September.
A midday dance has been organised by Leisure Services staff and volunteers from the “Weigh2 Go Group” (sponsored by Raukura Hauora O Tainui) from 10am to 2pm at the Te Puke Otara Community Centre in Newbury Street, Otara.
International Day of the Older Person celebrates positive ageing and the value that older people bring to communities.
Organiser, Maraea Howe says that dancers will swing to the music of the fourties, fifties and sixties with the "Slip into Gumboots" band. Special guests Louise Pokai and Otara Line Dancers (sponsored by Raukura Hauora O Tainui) will also perform.
The dance is free and is for those aged 50 years and over. Free transport is available with 5kms of the Otara Town Centre.
Those who wish to use this transport need to phone the Otara Leisure Centre on 274 6914 to register.
A light lunch will be also provided.
The dance is sponsored by Te Puke Otara with spot prizes donated by Raukura Hauora O Tainui.
