Coronation Street Voted Best TV Show
Media Release 22 December 2003
Coronation Street Voted Best TV Show
Long running favourite, Coronation Street has been voted Best Show on TV by TV Guide readers in the Best on the Box People's Choice Awards.
The British programme has been a hit in New Zealand for more than forty years, and this year claimed its crown as the Best Show on the Box, beating the darlings of Australian outback, McLeods Daughters (2nd), and last year's winner, CSI who placed third.
More than 8,000 votes were received for the Best Show on TV category in the biggest annual poll on New Zealand television.
Antony Phillips, TV Guide editor said that the award reinforced the British show's status as a Kiwi television institution.
"Coronation Street has always been a hit with New Zealand viewers but 2003 saw its popularity soar with the introduction of new characters and storylines, including the street's first serial killer, the unforgettable evil Richard Hillman."
