One of the Greatest Voices of the 20th Century Returns to New Zealand.

Ivan Rebroff is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the singer with the broadest vocal ranger in the world – an astonishing four and a half octaves, enabling him to sing in the unprecedented range of bass to soprano register!

For more than 40 years, his unique vocal gifts and engaging personality have delighted audiences all over the world in concert programmes featuring a remarkable variety of repertoire from Russian folksong and operatic arias to highlights of Fiddler on the Roof. It was the role of Tevje in this popular musical, which catapulted Ivan Rebroff into international fame. Rebroff’s career include a staggering 1476 consecutive performances in Fiddler on the Roof, as well as The Barber of Seville, by Gioacchino Rossini, Boris Godunov by Modest Moussorgsky, The Gypsies' Baron and Blood of Vienna by Johann Strauss, The Rose Cavalier by Richard Strauss and Der Bettelstudent by Karl Millöcker.

Today he performs over 150 concerts around the world annually and still describes himself as ‘ The bass who has been blessed with the ability to sing high notes when the music demands.’

The 2004 programme will feature famous Russian folksongs including Dark Eyes, Song of the Volga Boatmen and Evening Chimes; Lara’s Theme from Doctor Zhivago; If I were a Richman and other highlights from Fiddler on the Roof; Ol’ Man River and Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen. Popular classical repertoire will include Handel’s Largo and the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria.

Returning to New Zealand after 18 years, Rebroff will be accompanied by a quartet of leading St Petersburg-trained musicians. Knostantin Tchirkov (contrabass-balalaika), Andrej Borissov (balalaika), Tatjana Borissova (dombra) and Irina Kawerina (bajan).
