Record number of entries for New Zealand's oldest wine competition

A record number of entries have been received for the judging of the New Zealand Wine Society Royal Easter Wine Show competition, being held at the Greenlane Expo Centre in Auckland this weekend.

More than one thousand entries from wineries throughout the country have been received and the Expo Centre is a hive of activity with glasses and wines being poured for judges to sip, slurp and spit out.

"We have been amazed at the record number of entries at this years show, 171 vineyards have entered which is a remarkable increase on last year. Most notably, the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay class entries have increased significantly. This reflects the increase in production of these wine varieties in the New Zealand wine marketplace," says show organizer Terry Dunleavy

A panel of four judges will sip-slurp and spit their way to revealing the successful medal winners. Each panel is made up of three senior judges, all under the chairmanship of Bob Campbell MW and deputy chair and senior judge, John Hancock.

Trophy awards will be presented at a glitzy black-tie event for the New Zealand Wine Society Royal Easter Wine Show 2004 at an Awards Dinner held at the Auckland Museum on Saturday evening 28th February.
