Pacific Underground - One Night Only
Pacific Underground will present a special one night only performance of "Island Summer" at the Deluxe Lounge (Dux de Lux), on Tuesday 13 July at 7.00pm, cost $10.00.
Musical Director Pos Mavaega, and musicians Tanya Muagututi'a and Andrew Sione will depart Christchurch on Monday 19 July to attend the 9th South Pacific Arts Festival in Palau, and join the NZ Delegation of approximately 80 Maori and 15 Pacific Island artists of writers, directors, actors, musicians, dancers, weavers, carvers and tatooists.
This is the first time this Christchurch based Pacific performing arts collective have been selected to participate in this festival, who will join productions like "Vula", the acclaimed visual theatre piece by Wellington based Fijian Nina Nawalowalo, and writer John Pule.
"In preparation for the festival we're looking at how flexible our show can be. We performed "Island Summer" at the Christchurch Arts Festival last year with 9 of us playing 10 guitars, so representing this show with only 3 of us has been challenging and rewarding at the same time." says Musical Director Pos Mavaega.
The special performance also is a
chance to showcase some local supporters of Pacific
Underground. "We've been hosting events and gigs for a
while now, to assist up and coming groups to showcase their
talent, so this performance is no different. We're still
jamming with friends who want to support us and our trip -
even the Dux have been significant in supporting our music
over the years". says Tanya Muagututi'a, who co-wrote some
of the music for this show.
