1. INTRODUCTION
Tena koutou. Kia ora.
Welcome to the inaugural eSCAPE, the electronic
newsletter of the New Zealand Community Trust Art & Industry
Urban Arts Biennial 04 SCAPE, "from a different angle".
Through eSCAPE we will be keeping you up to date with news
and events in the lead up to and during the SCAPE Biennial
2004.
The SCAPE Biennial 04, 1 September - 30 November 2004, will be the third biennial of urban arts so far held in Christchurch, New Zealand, and marks its coming of age as an event of national significance. In particular, this year's theme "from a different angle" explores New Zealand's position as an island at the crossroads of Asia, the Pacific and the West.
The SCAPE Biennial 04 divides into four main sections that relate to Christchurch's urban landscape in different ways: Echo, HOME/GROUND, LightSCAPE and Work It. Next week we profile LightSCAPE and artist David Hatcher.

3. ADRIENNE, LADY STEWART: THE NEW CHAIR
I am delighted to Chair the Art & Industry Biennial Trust.
The Art & Industry Biennial is an
invaluable opportunity for the community to celebrate the
richness and diversity of our arts.
The artworks generate
a welcoming space for people to observe the creation as well
as the finished work. All of the participants share a
commitment to pursuing excellence and innovation in their
work.
This contemporary urban arts biennial will further
enhance the partnership between business and the arts and
will have a positive impact on our lovely city.
