Wellington’s Lesbian Bal Almost There
Wellington’s Lesbian Bal Almost There
Queen Boadicea, Cleopatra, Elizabeth I, and Marlene Deitrich could be rubbing shoulders in Wellington on Saturday.
The theme of this year’s Lesbian Ball on 25 September is “In One Era and Out the Other”, and organisers expect this will bring some interesting costumes out of the closet.
It’s a chance for lesbians to dress up in to represent their favourite era – or to come as a famous character from history, literature or legend. The theme was chosen because it was fun and would give everyone the chance to wear something that suits them.
The ball will be held at the James Cook Grand Chancellor and features a DJ, belly dancer and an items by the Drag Kings
Tickets are selling well, but there are still a handful left, which are available from Unity Books, D.Vice, and Pound.
Prizes for the best costumes have been donated by the Purple Onion cafe and Unity Books. Other sponsors include GAP - the gay and lesbian professionals association, Express newspaper, DOODS - lesbian community grants, and PrideAlliance - the Alliance Party Queer Network.
