Ponsonby Alive 2004, the nine-day music festival which kicks off this Saturday (November 27th), features a mixture of new and old acts, most with a Ponsonby connection. A free concert kicks off the festival at 2pm at Western Park, with performances by the Grand Central Band, Graham Brazier and the Windy City Strugglers.

On Saturday evening, Che Fu & The Krates will headline a concert at the specially erected Gluepot Marquee at 118 Ponsonby Road. Ponsonby born and bred, Che’s performance will be his first in his home suburb for four years. Special guest is King Kapisi.

Che’s father, Tigilau Ness, widely regarded as the father of Auckland reggae, will also appear at the festival (6.30pm, Sunday November 28th at the Safari Lounge).

Ponsonby Alive 2004 will also include performances by Hello Sailor, Nesian Mystik, Jordan Luck, Emma Paki, Graham Brazier, and Rick Bryant & The Jive Bombers. The festival finishes on Sunday December 5th.
