Newtown Festival: South Stage Performers


Newtown Festival 2005 - Festival Fair - Sunday 6 March - South Stage Performers

Music is a key element of the Newtown Festival. The performers on the South Stage are well known within music circles and have links to the Newtown Community

Performers on the South Stage include

10:30 am Johnathon Crayford Trio - Well known as one NZ best Jazz musicians, Johnathan is highly respected for his imaginative and intelligent playing. A genius on the keyboard with considerable overseas experience. This trio includes also includes 2 of Wellingtons best Jazz players, Reuben Bradley on Drums and Mostyn Cole on Bass.

11:45 am - Sam Manzanza African Band - is an accomplished singer, dancer, and plays guitar, drum kit, congas, and harmonica. He brings his brand of original music which uses native rhythms and melodies like the Zairean rumba, American rock-and-roll and Caribbean reggae

1:00 pm Rodrigo Brothers (Inde Pop) - An talented project put together by equally talented local musicans. With a highly listenable CD album behind them, the band continues to record and perform locally .The music has a kiwi-inde rock sound & the songs are well written and arranged. The quality of the music truely deserves some serious radio play.

2:15pm Doosra (Contemporary Indian) - Doosra is a live band, performing groove-based compositions, influenced by Indian music and other western contemporary styles. Doosra performs, a mix of original music which are hugely influenced by the diverse backgrounds of the band members

3:30 pm Kogan's Heroes Jazz Swing - The talented line of graduates of the Massey Conservatory of Jazz fronted by the charasmatic singer 'Andrew Keoghan'. Impressive with their renditions of well know classics from the likes of Sinatra and Dean Martin but also modern artists like Harry Connick Jnr & George Benson
