New Competition To Create Art In The Sky

New Competition Encourges New Zealanders To Create Art In The Sky

Freedom Air and the Gold Coast’s Warner Bros. Movie World today launched a design competition of epic proportions known as ‘ART IN THE SKY’. The inaugural competition offers New Zealanders the chance to make Freedom Air’s new Airbus A320 aircraft their very own canvas in the sky.

Entrants are required to design the decal for the sides of the new aircraft based around the theme of ‘holidays’ and Warner Bros. Movie World (part of the Warner Village Theme Park Group) – situated at one of Freedom Air’s favourite destinations, the Gold Coast.

The competition will be launched at the end of February and all entries must be in by May 31 2005.

Freedom Air General Manager Stephen Jones says while it’s not the first time an aircraft has graced the skies wearing decals differing to its branded logo, Freedom Air believes it’s the first time New Zealanders have had the chance to design the look of a plane themselves.

“We’re pretty excited about ART IN THE SKY – a competition which fits Freedom’s values of being fun, friendly and being unashamedly proud to be kiwis – even though we are pairing up with our Aussie neighbours.

“We’re pleased to be able to give artistic New Zealanders creative freedom with our aircraft and we know Kiwis will be proud of this flying canvas when it hits the skies in August.”

Warner Village Theme Parks Director of Marketing Ken Minnikin says the project is a great way to reflect the fantastic holidays New Zealanders seek on the Gold Coast.

Our theme parks attract over 200,000 visitors from New Zealand each year – we’re a popular destination and Tasman rivalry aside, we love having Kiwis to our parks.

“We think people are going to love the chance to incorporate some of their favourite Warner Bros. Movie World experiences in a design that will eventually be worn by a 38 metre long aircraft.”

The competition terms and conditions require entrants to base their design around the theme of ‘holidays’. A creative brief has also been supplied, which requires entrants to include visual representations in their design of the Warner Bros. Movie World theme park experience.

ART IN THE SKY judges include renowned New Zealand artists Dick Frizzell and Billy Apple and Head of Axis Design School David Bell. Representatives from Freedom Air and Warner Village Theme Parks will also be involved in the judging.

The winner’s artwork will appear on the side of one of Freedom Air’s Airbus A320 aircraft for three years. They will also receive a return trip for four to the Gold Coast including accommodation and entry to the Warner Village Theme Parks.

All finalists will receive a return trip for two to the Gold Coast and theme park passes for two. A People’s Choice Award, worth $500 worth of art supplies will be voted for online.

All information on the competition including the entry form, terms and conditions and the creative brief can be found on partners’ websites http://www.freedomair.com and > http://www.movieworld.com.au
