Studio Gallery: NUMBSKULL opening 11 July
The Studio Gallery announces the opening of:
"NUMBSKULL",
an exhibition of photographic paintings and sculpture by Jarad Bryant- Monday 11 July, 5:30 - 7:00.
Showing: 12 - 23 July
Jarad's works take photographic images familiar to us through the world of the media, and reframes/repaints them, so that their 'beauty and gloss' is pared back to reveal their 'true skeletal structure'.
Jarad describes the exhibition as "intended to add to the growing worldwide consciousness in New Zealand, of a new way of being, and to help break the spell which has been cast upon (that they have cast upon themselves) the good people that live upon this Earth."
Of his work, he says, "With the sharp knife of my paintbrush, I cut through the vinyl faces and peel back their skin to reveal what is behind. I discover a tacky billboard television consumer culture, which appears to me as a fragile veil of denial."
