Cardrona Opens New Terrain Park Features
Eight new features in Cardrona Alpine Resort’s Heavy Metal Terrain Park were opened today for the Cadbury Moro Slopestyle. Over 50 skiers and snowboarders pitched their skills against the huge features that included two big airs, two rails and four boxes on a testing course that gave a sneak preview of what’s to come at the Burton New Zealand Open.
The Cardrona Freeride team took a clean sweep with sponsored riders Mitch Brown, Nabila Piper and Jossi Wells all winning their respective disciplines.
Mitch Brown took an easy lead in the men’s snowboarding with a score of 27.3 ahead of Japan’s Takahide Seki who came second with 24.5. In the men’s skiing, 15-year-old Jossi Wells’ score of 26.1 was enough to put him ahead of pro skier Mike Wilson of the USA who scored 22.2. The women’s snowboarding competition was a close battle between Nabila Piper and fellow Cardrona sponsored rider, Juliane Bray with Nabila just pipping Juliane to the post with a score of 22.0 over 21.4.
High-level competition at Cardona Alpine Resort continues with the Junior Free Ski Nationals on 5-7 August. For further information visit www.cardrona.com.
