The Open Is Open!
The world’s top riders are all set to take on Cardrona’s specially built Heavy Metal Terrain Park on day one of New Zealand’s biggest snowboarding competition, the Burton New Zealand Open tomorrow (Thursday).
Today saw all 100 competitors complete rider registration before heading out for a practice session in the park in preparation for tomorrow’s Slopestyle competition. Rider representative, Dylan Butt said feedback was excellent and riders were looking forward to getting the competition underway tomorrow.
“Everyone’s stoked with the course,” he said. “There are three good rail set ups, all with options, and two good tabletops that’ll see the competitors getting huge air. It’s a very tight, technical course with no room for mistakes. We’ve seen a lot of spins, trickery and combos on the rails today – tomorrow promises to be a competition not to be missed.”
The Slopestyle heats start at 9am tomorrow morning with finals scheduled for 2.15pm. The halfpipe preliminaries take place on Friday at 9.30am with grand finals on Saturday at 10am. For more information visit www.cardrona.com or www.opensnowboarding.com.
