It’s Spring So Get Dancing!

The award-winning festival Dance Your Socks Off! is about to hit the streets of Wellington with almost 60 dance events throughout September to delight audiences.

The month-long dance party features something for everyone with a variety of classes, performances, and workshops on offer. Highlights include dance film screenings at The Film Archive, A right royal GALA featuring some of New Zealand’s most distinguished dancers, and a night of retro funk and wheels at the Roller Disco.

“The diversity of events in Dance Your Socks Off! is unmatched by any other dance festival in New Zealand,” says Festival Coordinator, Kirsten Kelly.

“One feature to look out for is A right royal GALA, a group of New Zealand’s most illustrious performers including Sir John Trimmer and Kerry Anne Gilberd, creating a collection of theatrical gems from Broadway to ballet. It will be an unforgettable night of glamour.”

There’s also lots on for the children to enjoy. Anita’s Kids Theatre will perform Cinderella, a ballet performance with a storyteller, magic and children’s music. The show is on 3 and 4 September at Capital E. Java Dance Company will present Giraffes Can’t Dance, suitable for children of all ages starting 15 September.

Have a go at tango, hip hop, contemporary, line dancing, contact improvisation, Polish dance, swing, rock and roll or Scottish country dancing in one of the many classes on offer over the festival.
