2005 SSANGYONG NZ MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The SsangYong NZ Motocross Championship starts this weekend in Taupo, with qualifying and practice on Saturday and racing on Sunday.

With Kiwi riders performing well in three corners of the world there may never have been more motivation for our domestic championships.

From their Belgium base Josh Coppins & Ben Townley are second and third respectively in the World MX 1 Championship.

In the recently completed Australian Championship; New Zealanders featured in the top three Daryl Hurley (Suzuki) 1st, Darryll King (Yamaha) 2nd and Shayne King (Honda) 3rd in the Open Class, and Luke Burkhart (Suzuki) 3rd in the 125cc class.

The King brothers, Daryl Hurley, Luke Burkhart, and teenage sensation Katherine Prumm (Kawasaki) fresh from a second placing in the FIM World Motocross Cup will be in Taupo this weekend at the start of a four month campaign which will end at Rotorua.

Prumm is taking on the men in the National 125cc class, up against experience campaigners Cody Cooper (Honda), Scott Columb (Suzuki), Damien King (Yamaha) and Scotsman Barry Morris (Yamaha).

Possibly the most mouthwatering class is the 500cc. The over subscribed grid includes Daryl Hurley (Suzuki), Darryll King (Yamaha), Shayne King(Honda), and Corrie Sargent (Honda).
