The Staying Alive Expo at Mystery Creek Events Centre is gearing up to set the crowd on fire this Saturday.

The ‘house of hazards’ will be set ablaze and internal cameras will show what is happening on large screens outside for the public to observe.

Nearly 50 emergency services and safety related organisations have pulled together to hold the biggest FREE event of its type for the Staying Alive Expo 05.

The emphasis will be to showcase what each of the services does and will create an awareness of crucial safety and survival information.

The event is open to the public and the main day is Saturday where visitors can “see all the rescue services in action, be rescued, be the rescuer or just watch the best in the world compete” says Roy Breeze, Hamilton chief fire officer and expo coordinator

“It is a ‘hands on’ expo where visitors can talk to the rescuers and touch the equipment” Mr Breeze said.

“Schools in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and South Auckland have registered about 6000 children for the expo but the big day on Saturday is likely to draw huge crowds.” He said.

Attractions include: House of Hazards, mock medical emergency centre, road crash re-enactments, live activity from rescue & police helicopters, mountain and line rescue experts, urban search and rescue specialists and dogs, live fire demonstrations, speed of fire show, police dog demonstrations, car drops, celebrity guests, prizes and giveaways

The Staying Alive Expo is being held in conjunction with the Australasian and World Road Crash Rescue Challenge’s, also at Mystery Creek Events Centre.

The challenge’s, which commenced on Sunday, see international teams work against the clock to safely rescue patients trapped in mock accident scenarios.
