Young Wellington leaders win top awards

Press release – Friday 21st October 2005

Young Wellington leaders win top awards

Members of local leadership organisation, JCI Wellington, returned from Christchurch last weekend (14th-16th October) with plenty to celebrate. The group came away from the 62nd JCI National Convention with a raft of national awards.

JCI Wellington president, Andrea Lill accepted the Laurel Leaf award for outstanding achievement on behalf of the chapter. “I was really stoked” she said. “This has been a fantastic year for JCI Wellington. The chapter has worked hard over the last twelve months to reinvent itself, and it’s great to have our efforts recognized with such a prestigious award.” Other awards were the Bronze plaque for membership increase, the Most Outstanding New Member award, presented to Andrew Bickerton, and the Bardsley Bell for best attendance at convention. JCI Wellington member, Martin Watson, was elected as JCI National Vice President for 2006.

JCI (Junior Chamber International) is a worldwide organisation which encourages young people to develop leadership skills and social responsibility that will help them in their business and personal lives. At its height in New Zealand the organisation, then known as Jaycees, boasted more than 6,000 members. JCI Wellington has been at the forefront of efforts to reverse the decline in membership seen in recent years. JCI provides a range of activities including networking, training and social events for people from 18 to 40 years of age. For more information visit: www.jci.wellington.net.nz
