The Lion Red "undie 500" in conjunction with The Rock

Friday 28th October 2005, Queen Street, 12.30 pm

When is it ever appropriate to get your kit off and sprint down Queen Street in your undies to the screams of hundreds of supporters?

The "Lion Red undie 500" in conjunction with The Rock on Friday 28th October is one chance for Aucklanders to show friends, family, workmates, and employers what they are really made of.

This iconic Auckland event is held each year as a warm-up to the Auckland Marathon. It has regularly seen up to 100 keen exhibitionists and as many as 5000 spectators lining the sides of Queen Street egging them on.

It's a sight not to be missed, with boxer and brief clad bodies sprinting 250 metres up one side of the street and then back down to the finish line.

The "undie 500" will take place on Queen Street between Victoria and Wellesley Streets at 12.30pm, and this section will be closed to all vehicles from 12.25pm to 12.45pm on the day.

Because it's the undie 500 the first guy and gal to cross the finish line will each win 500 bottles of Lion Red, plus there will be loads of great spot prizes on the day.

Don't worry about not having any nice undies to wear, because Rio has come to the party and we have 100 pairs of Rio undies for the first 50 guys and 50 girls to get there.

This is your one chance to run up Auckland's main street in your undies without being arrested - so take it!
