Episode One of The Living Room Series Three is presented by Visual Artist Wayne Youle from North Canterbury. We also meet Kate Ruth from Hastings who has recently returned from New York, Carl Gifford, Sculptor who works with large Boulders and metal. And medieval, fantasy London based doll maker Tanya Marriott.

Wayne Youle

This week’s presenter Wayne Youle takes us back to where it all started at his home in North Canterbury. He shows us how he makes his chocolate tikis, resign lollipops and other parodies of Maori art.


We also take a swim at the local pool where Wayne works as a lifeguard, and we’re with him when his exhibited “Maori Swastikas” causes a wide spread outrage and makes national headlines


Kate Ruth

Next we meet up with fashion Stylist, colouring book illustrator Hastings girl Kate Ruth. Kate will take us back to her home town after recently returning from New York were she styles international celebrities such as Alicia Keys and the New York band Fanny Pack.

Carl Gifford – “Rockman”

We meet Wellington Rock Sculptor Caluchi AKA Carl Gifford who, on a 62 acre piece of land on Owhiro Bay Road, creates Boulder Sculpture. We learn of his big ideas for the land which include water-slides and giant Rock art. We take part in the dropping of rocks on cars and experience Caluchi’s dreams and ambitions.

Tania Marriot

We take a trip to London to meet the talented Tanya Marriott who makes a variety of medieval and fantasy dolls for the movies. She will give us a sneak preview of her brand new exhibition featuring erotic fairies, and lets us into her London home to talk doll making.
