Fat Freddy’s Drop have sailed back up to the Number One spot on the New Zealand album charts, and the bros are looking for local voter support in their quest to win Worldwide awards in London.

The Pacific purveyors of hi-tek soul dropped Based On A True Story in May, shipping Gold on the first day and making history as the first independently distributed album to hit Number One on the NZ Album Charts.

The album has hovered in the top twenty since then, but following the Freddy’s stash of four Tui New Zealand Music Awards in October it’s achieved Triple Platinum sales, and this week regained the chart’s top spot.

Fat Freddy’s Drop leave for London soon to play at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Music Awards show, 12 December at Koko, a ceremony that B.O.A.T.S is nominated for "Album Of The Year" and Seconds for "Track of the Year".

Fitchie is keen for New Zealand music lovers to throw their support behind the bros by going on-line to the Worldwide Awards and voting for Fat Freddy’s Drop.

The Freddy’s were fourth for the Worldwide ‘Best Live Session’ last year. One of the session tunes, This Room, features on Gilles Peterson’s brand new BBC Live Sessions Vol 1, alongside music legends Bjork, Beck, Roots Manuva, NERD, The Roots, Amp Fiddler, Dwele and Cody ChesnuTT.

While in London, Freddy’s will drop their own show at Hammersmith Palais and they’ll jet to Berlin, Hamburg and Florence for gigs and to Paris for a recording session, before heading home for summer 06. The bros are booked for key festivals around the country, including Rhythm and Vines, Kaikoura Roots, Big Day Out, Splore, NZ International Festival and Hula Laguna in Wellington, plus two ‘whanau’ gigs in Rotorua and Tauranga.

And as a wee Christmas gift, Freddy’s are releasing a CD single of the Wandering Eye feat a wicked Fitchie remix of the party track, with bonus extras the Wandering Eye music video, stills and an underground ‘making of’ the music video that was shot in a Grey Lynn fish and chip shop. A SubMariner remix of the Wandering Eye will appear only on a limited edition 12” vinyl single.
